Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitar player and music artist. She is the youngest woman and also the first woman to receive the British House of Commons shield. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on sitar music. Indian sitar. She is the daughter and pupil of Ravi Shankar. Born in London, she spent the beginning of her career traveling between London as well as New Delhi. As a teenager the first time she performed at New Delhi took place. She then moved to Encinitas CA, where she received her High School diploma with honors in the year 1999. After four years she performed her music debut with the sitar Delhi at her father's 75th birthday celebration. Anoushka, who accompanied her father during his world tour, gained an incredible quantity of knowledge. When she was in her teens, she played at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. The House of Commons Shield was given an award from the British Parliament in recognition of being the most renowned Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and is the smallest recipient of this prize.
